The role of the corporation is a subject of great scrutiny today. Should corporations be constrained in some way? Are they as bad as their detractors claim? Have we understood their true nature and purpose in history?
And what of not-for-profit corporations? We have become used to them as the vehicles for transferring money to worthy, non-commercial causes. This arrangement presupposes that money is first ‘made’ before being given away, that it should be given at the bequest of the donor rather than the recipient, and that existing tax regimes will endure. But how certain are any of these assumptions and what does the future hold?
This project examines the place and future of both for-profit and not-for-profit corporations in modern society.
